A bit hidden away on a quiet piazza with surprisingly excellent food: Restaurant Antica Torretta (2. August 2024)

| November 1, 2024 | 0 Comments

Since we hadn’t booked a place for lunch, we had to decide a bit last minute where we wanted to go eat. Given, most of the places, which had a terrace and/or a view were booked out, we ended up going somewhere in the vicinity, which was rather lovely, respectively turned out to be rather lovely, although we hadn’t expected it, because it was empty when we arrived.

It took them a little while to get moving, bring the menu, and take up the order for the beverages, but it’s worth the wait. I went for the “Double Zero Cantabrico sea anchovies, French butter, black bread and fennel herbs emulsion” (EUR 22.00), which was fine. I love anchovies, so, just with that, I was already semi-sold, and the sauce with the crispy squid ink bread worked a charm with it. Still, somehow I had hoped for something a bit more exciting.

That changed with the dish of the day, the “tortelli filled with red prawns, fermented garlic, buttermilk sauce” (EUR 29.00). They were just and simple: truly delicious! The pasta was al dente, the stuffing was mouth-watering, and the buttermilk sauce really made this a well-balanced, interesting, and delicious dish.

As a little ‘gift’ from the restaurant, you’d get a “peach sorbet”, which is not necessarily something we wanted, but given it was served, why not. And I tell you why yes! The taste profile was actually great.

So, to sum it up, the Antica Torretta is definitely not the cheapest place when you’re looking for Italian food, but the food is delicious, the place is quite nice (and actually the piazza is surprisingly quiet), and the service is overall attentive and friendly (if you are willing to wait a little in the beginning).
