A first stab at authentic Icelandic cuisine, but with the touristy touch: Restaurant Apotek (17. August 2024)

| November 17, 2024 | 0 Comments

The Apotek had been recommended to me by two people individually, so, I decided to give it a try, and it was a good decision to do so. It started with “sourdough bread with truffle butter” and I must admit that the bread was actually quite delicious. And the truffle butter wasn’t too bad either.

Then, I decided to opt for the “2-Course Lunch Menu” (6’990 ISK), which offered a decent selection of a few dishes. I started with the “Icelandic Landscape (lamb tartar, pickled red onions, smoked cream cheese, chives mayo, vinegar snow)” (usually 3’990 ISK), which looked a bit funny as I couldn’t quite figure what the vinegar snow was until I tried. And I must say, the hand-cut tartar was actually superbly delicious. Definitely loved it.

The “tiger shrimp salad (tiger shrimps, apple, Romain salad, Parmesan croutons, dill foam horseradish cream)” (usually 4’990 ISK) on the other hand was just too much. The shrimps were quite tasty, but the salad was just too much food somehow. On top of that, the salad was drenched in a relatively intense dressing, which wasn’t too enjoyable. But, that aside, it was a good experience overall.

Last but not least, I had decided to go for some “crispy baby potatoes with rosemary and garlic” (1’890 ISK) on the side, and these were actually delicious. The fries on the other hand were rather disappointing (a bit too stroppy for my personal gusto), but the rosemary potatoes were truly enjoyable.

All in all, the Apotek is nice as the staff is friendly and attentive, making sure that things are sorted quickly. On top of that, the Apotek is located perfectly, and last but not least, the interior is rather nice. So, if you’re in Reykjavík, I would highly recommend you to book a table in advance.
