A great starter, but a bit disappointing meat for a steakhouse: Restaurant Safe Meat 2 (17. September 2024)

The restaurant landscape in Geneva is far from great, so, it’s not always easy – depending on the area you’re in – to find something, which looks appealing. The Safe Meat 2 had about 35 5-star ratings on Google, which is obviously a bit fishy, but then again, there weren’t many alternatives around, so, I decided to give this a try! As a starter, I went for the “chakchuka (légumes avec sauce tomate)” (CHF 9.00), which looked semi-appealing, but turned out to be absolutely tasty! Personally, in hindsight, I would have ordered two of this instead of anything else.

Given the place claims to be a steakhouse (and looking at the menu, that’s the case), I went for the “entrecôte (220gr) with French Fries and vegetables” (CHF 45.00). The meat was cooked in the requested temperature, which was pleasant to see. The fries were not stroppy, but also not overly crispy, and the vegetables turned out to be quite tasty overall. However, from a flavour perspective, the meat wasn’t entirely to my liking. Not sure why, but somehow it was just lacking a bit of that little extra, which makes a great piece of meat.

The staff was friendly and more or less attentive. They were a bit locked behind the bar and since I was seated at the table behind a pillar, it was a bit hard to make oneself seen/heard, and due to their focus on the bar conversation, there was a little bit of patience involved. However, they were friendly and swift. So, not my absolute favourite, but all in all, the Safe Meat 2 is a decent place for an evening meal.
