Another touristic location with quite tasty food: Restaurant O Azenhas do Mar (29. December 2024)

| April 4, 2025 | 0 Comments

The O Azenhas do Mar turned out to be another case of ‘a touristic place, which turns out to be tasty’ – and you also definitely have to book in advance to make sure to score a table! I went for the “panko fried shrimp with mango mayonnaise and soy sauce” (EUR 22.00), which was quite okay, meaning, good, but nothing outstanding.

The “ceviche of the day” (EUR 19.00) on the other hand was actually very good. The fish was rich in flavour, and went well with the avocado dots – so, I was ready for more, and given you could order things ‘fresh’, I figured, that’s what one should do.

Of course, that needs to come with sides, and while the “white rice with garlic and coriander” (EUR 5.00) was a side to the carabiñeros, I added the “green beans” (EUR 6.00). While the rice was a bit too dry for my personal gusto, but became delicious with the sauce of the carabiñeros, the green beans were actually quite nice by themselves.

Now, the “carabiñeros” (300gr) (EUR 57.00) were definitely on the even more expensive side of things with EUR 190.00/kg, even compared to the place two days earlier, but they were just so damn delicious with in their own sauce.

Then, I thought I also give the “barnacles (200gr)” (EUR 10.00) a try since I haven’t eaten them in a while, and let me tell you, 200gr of these is quite a bit of work to pull them apart and while they are decent and overall good, they are nothing oustanding or marvelous, at least to me.

What is outstanding, though, is the view you have on the Azenhas do Mar from the restaurant. And while the interior is decent, the staff is really friendly, attentive, and swift, so, you feel welcome and sure want to come back. Booking, as initially outlined, is highly recommended, though.
