It remains an institution, but I feel it has not necessarily improved: Restaurant Didi’s Frieden (19. February 2025)

| April 26, 2025 | 0 Comments

Conceptually, the Didi’s Frieden still offers the same – a small menu, and you have to pick at least three courses (CHF 85.00). After a small amuse bouche – and I got something vegetarian as my friend is vegetarian – which was nice …

… I decided to go for the “Bresoala ravioli”, which was a small portion, but kind of perfect to get started into the evening. And the flavor intensity of the Bresoala really made the bites interesting.

As a second starter (since I picked two starters and no dessert), I went for the “crispy pork belly on blood sausage crisps, pumpkin cream, and a red wine foam sauce” and while the different flavors were truly playing well together, you have to be a lover of strong tastes to enjoy this dish in its current form.

As a main, I decided to go for the “beef filet with braised beef cheeks served on a Syrah sauce, oven vegetables, and spaetzle”. The spaetzle were great, the cheeks were exquisite, and the beef filet was okay. So, all in all, a sound dish. I suppose in summary a bit better than average, but – in all honesty – also nothing, which would absolutely blow your mind.

Admittedly, the place is nice and overall appealing in terms of interior design (although it’s rather simple), but the tables are too small, respectively, too close to each other. The waitress was attentive and truly friendly, so, that was a positive experience. Now, in summary, the Didi’s Frieden is a nice place, but it feels like it has lost some of its spark, to be very honest. Still, it was packed on a Wednesday evening, so, I would highly recommend you to book your table in advance.
