Been there, done that, won’t go again: Restaurant Mekong (16. March 2025)
Sometimes you end up in places where you didn’t really plan or expect to end up in – and the Mekong was definitely one of these. It is, at heart, a take-away place, but it offers also the option to eat right there and then. And since we were a group of 6, I had wondered if it wouldn’t make sense to actually book a table in advance – and that was not possible, which I didn’t entirely understand. However, once I had arrived there, I figured out why – the place is small and superbly busy. There is also a very limited number of parking space available, hence, it is a bit tricky to find enough space. In any case, they don’t really ‘serve’ you, but you have to walk up to the counter to pick what you want to eat, and that is then served on a plate.
I went for the “chicken with Thai basil” (CHF 17.00) and I must say that this was very average or even below average. I mean, it is not something I finished and it was just lacking somehow in everything.
So, frankly, it is not really a place I would frequent again. This was reinforced when watching the ladies who serve the food behind the counter where hands are used for more than just serving food, and not necessarily washed thereafter. So, in all fairness, a once in a lifetime experience, and not a great one.
