A place full of tradition with overall decent food: Restaurant Gran Sasso (30. April 2025)

| June 6, 2025 | 0 Comments

It is more than a decade ago since I’ve last paid the Gran Sasso a visit – so, it was more than overdue to come here again. Upfront, the place isn’t really cheap when it comes to the prices, but it serves quite good food, so, I might come back here again a bit earlier than in another 10 years. However, I must admit that I was surprised by how ’empty’ the place was for a Wednesday evening. In any case, we went for the “gambas al ajillo” (CHF 32.50) to share to get started, and I must say I truly enjoyed that they were not served in sizzling oil, which is so often messy, but that they were served as ready to eat and full of garlic shrimps. Personally, they were a little too dry, but other than that, it was nice.

As a main, I went for the “rib eye (400gr)” (CHF 68.50) with “leaf spinach” (CHF 5.00) and “risotto” (CHF 4.00). Firstly, the sides were cheaper on the actual bill than what had been shown in the menu. Secondly, the quality of the meat was really nice – I truly enjoyed it. And last but not least, the sides were also refilled once you were done with the first batch. So, all in all, despite not being on the cheap side you would get quite enough to eat – and in a good quality.

The staff is here for a while and they are professional and friendly, making sure you have everything you need and want within no time. So, it’s quite enjoyable to dine here – not as crowded and busy, good food, and decent prices.
