A lunch experience over the roofs of Berlin, where you need time: Dachgarten-Restaurant Käfer im Deutschen Bundestag (11. May 2025)
To have lunch here, proper planning is key, because the Käfer is at the top of the German Bundestag, which means you can only get in if you have signed up previously, plus, you will have to go through a security process to get in there. Hence, you should be there about 20-30 minutes before your actual reservation time. Once you’re up and get to be seated outside in the covered glass area, a waiter takes care of you – overall quite well, but the moment the place got fuller, it took them quite a while to bring the second bottle of water.
In any case, you get to pick two dishes for EUR 53.00, and you get started off with pickles, bread, and butter – and the butter is quite nice.
The “fregola sarda and Parmesan (tarragon, spinach, mini romano salad, garlic mayo)” is a rather small dish as a starter, so, it’s not really something, which fills your stomach, but it was actually surprisingly enjoyable and tasty.
The “Wiener Schnitzel with wild broccoli (La Ratte potatoes, Amalfi lemon, wild broccoli, cranberries, Hollandaise)” was overall nice. The schnitzel was breaded lightly, which was quite lovely, and it went surprisingly well with the sauce Hollandaise. The wild broccoli was cooked in a way to make it flavour-wise very enjoyable – the only thing I would not have needed was the decoration salad.
The view from the restaurant itself isn’t very amazing (since you’re seated too low), but still, you’re over the roofs of Berlin, which is quite lovely as a concept.
So, overall, having lunch at the Käfer on top of the German Bundestag is an experience you can definitely do when you’re in Berlin! Make sure to book, confirm, reconfirm, be early, and bring your ID. Then you can enjoy the visit!
