A great traditional Czech dining experience in a tower: Restaurant Zvonice (16. May 2025)

To get the evening in Prague started we decided to go for a traditional place like the Zvonice, which is a restaurant located on the 7th and 8th floor of one of Prague’s iconic towers and it is really a traditional place where you find small spaces in a relatively small wooden space, which is quite lovely overall, though. Given the layout of the restaurant isn’t really optimal given it’s size, it is a bit hard to get the waiter when you want him to show up, but once that is achieved, the speed of the service is actually quite fine. And it started with an amuse bouche prawn, which was actually nicer than I had expected, so, a good start into the evening.

As a starter I decided to go for the “carpaccio from venison sirloin marinated in forest herbs with orange coulis mini cake, served on rucola pesto and cranberry cream” (598 CZK), which looked a little small at first, but actually turned out to not only be big enough a portion to get your palate started, but was also rather enjoyable in terms of flavor profile. And in combination with the herbs and orange coulis, it was quite nice.

As a main, I picked the “Old Bohemian veal cheek with a cream of citrus fruits and forest honey, served with mashed potatoes with bacon, and spring onion, carrot chips and watercress “(1’059 CZK) and I must say, well-made veal cheeks are just something absolutely delicious. The tenderness of the meat was exquisite and with the generous application of sauce, it also turned out to be quite enjoyable – even if the mashed potatoes were a little bit dry by themselves, they went perfectly well in combination with the sauce.

All in all, the experience at the Zvonice is a very positive one because the place is nice (very traditional), the service is friendly (after the initial struggles of placing the order), the food is good, and it’s okay in terms of pricing. To be fair, but that is true for Prague overall, the average prices are much higher than I had expected and remembered.
