Where your experience is fully dependent on circumstances and choices: Restaurant Greta Oto (18. May 2025)

Given the GRETA OTO is a new place in Munich and rated relatively well, I figured, I should give it a try, and that is just what I did. Now, in all honesty, the location is absolutely great. The restaurant is located on the 9th floor of the Hotel Königshof – and the view, if you get a seat by the windows, is really amazing. The menu is inspired by Latin-American cuisine, and hence, generally appealing. However, the quality of the service varies massively depending on the individual. Once I was seated, which happened in a very friendly manner, I had to wait for about 8 minutes until someone finally showed up at my table, which doesn’t seem too long, but given the place was almost empty, it didn’t leave a good impression.

Once I was done ordering, it didn’t take long until a small amuse bouche from the kitchen was served in the form of a small “tomato coconut chili soup”, which was actually quite lovely. Sure, nothing exciting or mind-blowing, but warm, and nice. What wasn’t so great was the fact that the waitress was truly non-attentive and really unfriendly. She was just like, “here’s a tomato coconut chili soup”. And placed it on the table, and was off. I get it, you have a bad day, but man, that was really, really unfriendly.

As my first starter, I went for the “Cóctel de Marisco (seafood cocktail with Greta Oto dip & happiness)” (EUR 17.00), which was overall fine. But that really just describes it, it was fine. There was nothing exciting, nothing spectacular, nothing memorable. The only thing, which was a bit special, was the fact that there was chili in the cocktail, which gave it a bit of spiciness. Other than that, rather average.

Next in line, I had the “tossed beef tartar muy bueno (aji limo salsa, egg yolk, leek & roasted garlic)” (EUR 28.00), which was actually quite bueno. The meat was tasty, and the combination of different flavors and textures was overall quite nice. Personally, I wouldn’t have mind a bit of bread on the side, but the quality was superbly nice. Again, the waitress was very, very far from friendly, which was just somewhat unpleasant as an experience.

And then, everything changed – at least in regard to the service. There was this other waitress, which was incredibly friendly, smiley, and just doing an amazing job. And immediately, one felt better as a customer. Not like a burden, but they actually enjoyed having you as a customer, which was sooooo different from the experience with the first waitress. Now, talking about the food, I must admit that the “pork belly (braised, crispy crust, and truffle cream)” (EUR 36.00) was rather non-exciting. Somehow, I’m sure, this could have been a great bite, but it just turned out not to be so, since somehow it lacked everything exciting. For the “roasted Broccolini (with smoked almond, black garlic cream)” (EUR 12.00), it was a little different, since the combination of the black garlic and the smoked almonds with the Broccolini turned out to be quite delicious. But, overall, it feels like a hit or miss with the dishes – some were quite nice, others were rather average. And in all honesty, given the relatively high price of the dishes, I must admit that I found it not really justified.

The place is overall nice inside, but also nothing too exciting …

… what is truly amazing, though, is the view you have from the restaurant. I mean, look at this! Isn’t it just damn pretty?

So, depending on what you order, depending on who attends you, and which seat you get, the experience varies a lot. Frankly, to me, this is a “I’m not so sure”, because it’s lovely in terms of place and view, lovely if you get the attentive, smiley, friendly waitress, and nice if you pick the right dishes, but in any case, it’s rather expensive.
