One of the most amazing bar experiences ever – with a ‘caccio e pepe’ cocktail: 1930 Bar (8. June 2025)

The 1930 Bar was No. 50 of The World’s 50 Best Bars in 2024, and is located within the Premiata Pizzeria, but you can only get in if you have a reservation, which isn’t easy to get since you need to be a regular (or like me, lucky), to get a booking. The entrance is close to the toilet, and you need to press a hidden button, so, someone can open the door for you from the inside.

Once you’re inside, you will immediately realize how small the place really is and why it’s hard to get a space because ultimately, about 15-20 people seemed to be the very maximal capacity for the space. However, once you’re seated, the waiter immediately attends you and you get the menu. What is superbly interesting about the menu are the rather weird drink names, which are food-inspired. I decided to go for the “Cacio & Pepe (with Pecorino Romano DOP, Sarawak Black Pepper & Del Maguey Vida mezcal)” (EUR 20.00), because I was very curious how such a drink would taste like. And, believe it or not, the drink was actually tasting like caccio e pepe – all the cheesy flavors, all the taste. It was truly something I have never tried before – as a drink!

Secondly, I went for a drink called “Tacos de Carnita (with pulled pork, Mexican spices & Del Maguey Vida mezcal)” (EUR 19.00) and I was very curious how they would be able to mirror such a flavor, but let me tell you, while this wasn’t necessarily my type of drink, they actually managed quite well to mirror exactly that flavor, which was quite amazing.

If you somehow manage to get a booking here, you should try to be early and enjoy your time here and as many cocktails as possible. Given I had entered only around midnight, I was only able to try two, but my appetite for more has definitely woken up. And I’m sure, yours will too!
