One vegetarian Michelin Star – and a well-deserved one: Restaurant Neue Taverne (11. July 2025)
It’s a while ago since I’ve last been to the Neue Taverne, so, I was quite curious if anything had changed. And given the last time I’ve been here was in October 2023, sitting outside was not possible, but now, in July, it actually was, and it was quite lovely to do so, even though there are a few restaurants sharing the same place, and that makes it quite crowded and somewhat noisy. In any case, we went for the “sourdough bread from Lucerne with dip” (CHF 7.50) and I must say that the bread was actually enjoyable, and the spread with which it is served, is superbly lovely too.

Next in line was “Caviar of the field, finger lime, egg yolk, blinis” (CHF 28.00), which was a a close to perfect mimicking of actual caviar with blinis, but somewhat more enjoyable. So, if you have a chance to enjoy this dish, I would highly recommend you to order and try this.

Next in line was the “stracciatella di burrata, bell pepper, oregano, salted lemon” (CHF 26.00) and while you definitely cannot see the burrata here, the dish is actually absolutely exquisite – the flavor profile is outstanding, and the burrata in combination with the intensity of the bell pepper makes for a delicious bite.

After that, it was time for the “oxheart tomato, Kosho crème, herbal vinaigrette, panko” (CHF 18.00), which looked incredibly boring but actually turned out to be quite tasty and enjoyable.

Next, we went for the “spinach, potato foam, chili crunch” (CHF 9.00), which was decent but didn’t live up to the flavor profiles of the previous dishes.

Frankly, I was not the one who picked this dish, so, I didn’t expect much. However, the “eggplant, miso, peach salsa, wasabi sesame” (CHF 25.00) turned out to be absolutely mouth-watering, it even felt like one should have ordered two of those.

We then went for the “kernotto, la bouse, green beans” (CHF 32.00) and while I am not entirely able to describe the dish, I must admit that the combination of different flavors and textures really makes for a great mix and flavor experience.

Last but not least, we decided to close our dinner with “artichoke, barigoule, carrot, beetroot, herbs, buckwheat” (CHF 26.00) and that was actually quite a light dish – so, perfect to finish.

The Spanish waiter was absolutely friendly and made sure you have everything you want and need within no time – and finds the right balance between being professional, but keeping that lightness. Given the place is absolutely crowded, I would more than recommend you to book your table in advance – and probably more so than in other places.
