The perfect place for a lunch break on Formentera: Restaurant Pikala (1. September 2025)

| September 28, 2025 | 0 Comments

The Pikala was a lucky find – driving by on the bicycle led to the decision to have lunch here. And it was a great decision.  The place has two parts – a proper restaurant with beach view, and a little lounge at the back of the restaurant. Since the view from the restaurant is much better, the location was decided on easily.

Once you’re seated and have placed your order, you’re served a small “salmon tartare”, which is quite refreshing and great to get your palate started.

Then, it’s time for “bread and aioli” and I must admit, the bread was great, and the aioli in which you dip the bread, was even better.

The “gambas rojas, ajo blanco, aceite de negi, polvo de alga Nori” (EUR 28.00) were quite nice since the combination of the basically raw gambas with the red onion jam, and the fried heads really made for a great bite. Sure, you need to enjoy seafood, but if you do, then it’s rather enjoyable.

Given I was of the impression that the “crudo de gamba roja y su salsa” (EUR 8.00 per piece) was something entirely different (don’t ask me why I thought so), I was a bit disappointed to get basically the same as above although the price varies quite largely.

The “verduras a la catalana” (EUR 12.00) were exquisite. I’m usually not celebrating grilled veggies too much, but those were absolutely mouth-watering.

And in all honesty, so where the “pimientos del padrón” (EUR 12.00) since they were equally refreshing, fresh, and just rich in flavor.

Deciding to go for the “Kagigori home-made” (EUR 14.00), which is basically a Japanese form of shaved ice, was a great idea, since they prepare it freshly at your table grinding the ice …

… so you have a bowl of shaved ice, which is then finished with …

… a bunch of fruit reductions leading to that unique haeavy and stickiness of the shaved ice. Not something I would want to eat every day, but once in a while it is actually quite enjoyable.

The “rainbow tacos” (EUR 14.00) was an assortment of tacos ranging from mango, to raspberry, to matcha, to white chocolate, and sesame. And frankly, while the whole thing was rather heavy, it was also good and interesting to try.

The place is truly inviting …

… from the interior decoration of the lounge …

… to the decoration of the restaurant …

… and ultimately to the view you have from your table onto the beach.

When you’re in Formentera, I would highly recommend you to pay this place a visit – it’s definitely worth it!
