An outstanding experience all around – with specific kudos to the inflight service: First Class Flight FRA – HKG (LH796) (30. September 2025)

Frankly, you can be lucky or unlucky when it comes to the onboard experience – but today, I was very lucky! The crew on board made me feel more than welcome, more than taken care of, and just all around contributing to an amazing trip. Of course, it helps to be able to sleep for about 8 hours, but it already started right when you get on board with a glass of “Champagne Ruinart Rosé Brut” and some “nuts”. And you can’t really complain about anything if your journey starts with a glass of champagne.

The amuse bouche was a “grilled eel with apple, radish, and soy”, which I found interesting since it’s not your everyday choice. But, the taste was quite nice and overall it was enjoyable.

Then, it was time to have some “caviar with traditional garnishes” accompanied by a glass of “Grattamacco Bolgehri Rosso Superiore, Tuscany, Italy, 2021”, which were both great! I enjoyed the wine quite a lot, and it definitely goes onto my ‘have to try again’ list! Other than that, the caviar experience is always quite a pleasant one too.

Given we had an engaged discussion around food, I was suggested to try and assess the three starters: “sous-vide steamed lobster with spicy Yxing sauce and yellow radish”, “tomato garden with rocket salad pesto and balsamic”, and “chicken breast braised in herbs with celery, kohlrabi, and truffle”. The lobster was quite fine – nothing mind-blowing, but okay. The tomato garden salad was actually amazing. The flavor was intense, and it was just a lovely flavor experience all in all. However, the chicken breast was way too dry! And the truffle didn’t add anything to the dish. So, I would definitely go again for the tomatoes, but not for the rest.

For breakfast, I decided to have something light in the form of “freshly pressed orange juice, power bowl (yogurt berry granola, goldenberry, sunflower seeds, pecan nuts), and fresh fruit” – and I must say that I enjoyed the power bowl quite a bit, and the fresh fruit platter was also nice. However, part of the pineapple seemed to be from the stem since it was rather hard to bite, and I had to spit it out, which was a bit of a pity.

All in all, the LH796 to Hong Kong was definitely one of the better flight experiences I’ve had so far with LH F. And Patrick and Agata made it possible – massive kudos to the two of them for making that experience not only pleasant, but memorable!
