Average and pretentious – with superbly slow service: Restaurant DFG (Don’t F**k Goethe) (7. October 2025)
Well, the name is giving it away, right? I mean “don’t fuck Goethe” seems a bit aggressive as a name for a restaurant. But, I suppose, it’s very cool if you call your restaurant that way. That being said, it’s key to book in advance since the place is quite large but was also superbly full on a Tuesday evening. We got talked into trying “sourdough bread” (EUR 5.00) with “butter” (EUR 4.00). Frankly, not worth it. The bread isn’t anything special and EUR 4.00 for a little bit of butter really seems off. And yes, the butter was good, but not that great – especially, given the bread was rather average.

As a starter, I decided to go for the “tacos (pico de gallo, coriander, beef)” (EUR 17.00) because I felt, this might be good. And well, it wasn’t bad, but it was far from great – and for the price you pay, it’s definitely not up to par. I mean, sure, it’s not in Mexico, it’s not even a Mexican restaurant, but somehow the whole thing wasn’t really great.

The main course, the “Iberico pork belly, chili, lemon, coleslaw, pecanut” (EUR 24.00) turned out to be tasty, overall. However, the pork belly was definitely too dry for my personal gusto. Given, the whole thing was served – somehow – in a sauce, it was fine, but if you just tried the pork belly by itself, it wasn’t really juicy, but rather dry.

The place is very crowded, and, hence, quite loud, so, definitely not a good place for a decent conversation. Unless you want to yell, of course! That being said, the staff is a bit of a mixture of not really there but also somehow friendly. It felt like at some point we weren’t welcome, then we were, then not again. Not sure why – so, yeah, in a nutshell, a bit of a pretentious place and definitely not on my “visit again list”.
