A great experience in a former prison for women: Restaurant Lovis (5. December 2025)
The Lovis was on my to do list for quite a while already, so, it was about time to give it a try. We went for the “6-course tasting menu” (EUR 99.00) with the “wine pairing” (EUR 65.00), which started with a “brioche with mushroom cream and pickled red onions” and that sounded promising for sure. It just turned out, though, that it was rather dull and boring from a flavor perspective, which was a bit of a pity.

Next in line wa the “sourdough bread with whipped butter” and while I liked the bread, it wasn’t mind-blowing, but the butter was exquisite, so, it still turned out to be a lovely combination of flavors.

The first official course of the evening was the “salt baked beetroot, buttermilk dill sauce, green apple”, which was overall great. The dish had an interesting intensity, and the green apple and the onions added a nice crunch to the meal.

The “king oyster mushroom spaghetti, vegetable dashi, chili oil” were quite decent as well. Frankly, everything which sounds like pasta, should be pasta, as it is just not the same. That being said, the dish itself was decent – and the vegetable dashi broth was actually nice.

Next in line was a “baked Grenaille potato, preserved cucumber, Raclette cheese”, which reminded me a bit of Switzerland. Sure, it was not necessarily what you’d expect in a fine dining spot, but it was absolutely enjoyable to me. Only the crunchy potato stripes were applied a bit too generously in my personal opinion.

After that, it was time for something nice, intense, and eaten swiftly. The “pain feuilleté, lemon chicken jus, tarragon” was produced using tons of butter, and it was tasting accordingly delicious. And it was perfectly suited to pick up the chicken jus by soaking the bread in it.

As a main, I got the “braised beef cheek, pickled radish, pak choi & peanuts”, which turned out to be exquisite. The beef cheek would easily fall apart in your mouth, just how it is supposed to be – and the additional components on the plate add to it, but the thing to remember here is the actual beef cheek.

Last but not least, it was time for dessert in the form of a “croissant ice cream, caramelized pecan, damson plum”, which was a nice ending to a nice dinner.

The place is quite intense as it is a former prison for women. That being said, the staff was friendly and attentive, and besides forgetting once to bring the wine of the wine pairing to the respective course, they did a marvellous job. Given the spot is quite ‘famous’, I would highly recommend you to book your table well in advance!
