The sister restaurant of Joia in Milan – with an amazing view: Restaurant Matter Terrae (30. December 2025)

Once the amuse bouche in the form of a “carrot cream, almond mayo, edible charcoal” was served, I started wondering why I felt like I’ve had that before until I realized that this was pretty much the same dish as the amuse bouche, which was served in Joia in Milan. And I still kind of liked it.

Then it was time for a first focaccia. Which turned out to be more of a pizza than a focaccia. However, the “La Focaccia Pizzata ‘Manuelina’ (crunchy focaccia filled with Stracchio cheese, tomato, capers, olives, parsley and hot pepper)” (EUR 30.00) was actually exquisite. The flavors were on point, and the whole thing was just delicious.

Then, I went for something where I felt I could enjoy that, which I did, from a flavor perspective. But the “La Tavolozza di Kandinsky (colored gnocchi with spinach, beetroot, saffron, toasted walnuts and sage, accompanied by tomato confit, on a gorgonzola fondue and red cherry tomato sauce)” (EUR 40.00) makes you basically pay EUR 2.50 per gnoccho, which is just insane. So, frankly, that thing was massively overpriced and definitely not worth it!

The “chocolates”, which were served as an ending to the lunch, were intense and tasty.

What I truly liked was the building itself, since it is all green and makes you feel like you’re diving into another world (although there is a luxury hotel behind all these).

But not only the building, but also, and maybe even more so, the view you have over the roofs of Rome!

On top of that, the service was exquisite. The waiter was really attentive and did his job superbly well. So, if you’re looking for something tasty with a good view, and don’t mind paying too much for what you get, then the Matter Terrae is a great place you should try.
