Returning to find my favorite dish missing – but still enjoying the dinner: Restaurant BaoBae (17. January 2026)
We decided last minute to have dinner at the BaoBae given it was in the vicinity and had, luckily, a free spot for 2 hours. I started with a “Sichuan Basil (gin, distilled sichuan, Thai basil, black lime)” (CHF 19.00), which turned out to be good – and frankly, the little things on top of it were adding quite a bit to the drink experience.

We decided to start with “The BaoBae (confited duck, chili crunch, sauce gribiche, pickled onions) (2 pieces)” (CHF 25.00), which was actually quite tasty, but – frankly – CHF 25.00 for two bao buns is a steep price.

Next in line was the “Grilled Pork Belly (double cooked pork belly, chili jam, fish sauce, pickled carrots, lime)” (CHF 29.00) and while the bites were absolutely delicious and I would order them any day again, I find almost CHF 10.00 for a slice of pork belly rather expensive.

Next in line was the “peanut ‘ramen’ (peanut sauce, roasted onions, lime, fresh noods, Spanish jamon)” (CHF 18.00) and – if you like peanut – that was absolutely mouth-watering. And even fair in price. The intensity of the peanut is definitely not for everyone but with the jamon slices, it really made a difference.

Last but not least, we went for the “chipotle beef hotpot (28 day aged Luma beef, chipotle mojo, potatoes, onsen egg)” (CHF 35.00), which was quite lovely too. It’s not necessarily a hotpot in the classic sense, but it was more of a “hot pot”, i.e., a cast iron pan, which was sizzling hot. The content was quite delicious, I must admit.

So, all in all, the dishes are great. From a flavor perspective, this is definitely a place I would return to anytime again, resp. I will return to. However, personally, I found the fact that some of the pieces cost around CHF 10.00 per piece a bit too much.

The service personnel is superbly friendly and attentive and makes sure you have everything you want within no time. Again, the chef came out and had a brief conversation with us – and you can see the passion in what they do, so, personally, the BaoBae is definitely worth visiting.
