An absolutely lovely experience as a Valentine’s dinner: Restaurant pars (14. February 2026)
I had booked the pars in December without much intention regarding the date, but it turned out that it was – obviously – a Valentine’s dinner. Well, it is what it is, and we went for the “8-course tasting menu” (EUR 176.00) with a “wine pairing) (EUR 124.00). The evening started with “nasturtium, tomato water essence, smoked Müritz eel, wild garlic herb, gooseberry”. The “tomato water essence” was absolutely delicious and highly enjoyable. And so was the eel bite. Sure, you would mainly taste the eel since it was relatively overwhelming, but other than that, it was a great bite.

Next in line was the “kohlrabi, mountain cheese” dish, which did not only look very appealing, but it actually tasted quite amazing. The layering of the kohlrabi dish was fun to take apart – and it went well with the mountain cheese, so, definitely a great dish.

Next in line was the “yeast pastry in custard and salted butter from Erdhof”, and I must admit that I’m always a bit skeptical when one of the dishes is bread only, but the yeast pastry in custard was absolutely great since it was perfectly fluffy and the coating on top of it was delicious. And so was the salted butter – apply it generously onto your pieces of bread, and you’ll be sure to have a very pleasant mouthfeel!

Next in line was “mussel, pumpkin seed oil”, which was actually interesting, and surprisingly tasty. I’m saying surprisingly because the ‘mussels’ were oysters, and I’m really not a fan of them. However, given they did not taste like seawater, lemon, and salt, they were actually quite fine.

Next in line was the “salmon trout, sea buckthorn”, which was great. It was cooked under a lamp at 60° for an hour and well, the fish was still relatively raw, as it was intended to be. That being said, the bite was quite delicious, so, it was well-prepared.

The next course was intriguing since it looked rather exciting. Or, let’s say, interesting. This little ball of “potato, Szegediner cabbage” would make it difficult for you to guess what you’d be eating. In any case, the potato ball filled with cabbage, a cheese coating, and fresh pepper on top was really amazing and definitely something of which I could have enjoyed a second round.

Of course, you would wonder if German wagyu beef is actually good. Now, I cannot speak for Germany as a whole, but the “wagyu from Oldenburg with chestnut” turned out to be exquisite. The piece was of considerable size, the flavor profile was perfect, in combination with the sweetness of the chestnut, and last but not least, the texture was great. So, definitely a very enjoyable dish.

The next course is definitely something great if you enjoy blue cheese. However, if you don’t, I can imagine it’s quite horrible. Personally, I loved the “Friesisch blue ice cream with fig leaf”. Now, it’s not the absolutely first time that I had a blue cheese ice cream, but it was perfectly fine and intense at the same time, so, an interesting combination for sure.

Net in line was the “flan, almond” course, which was the second last official dish of the menu. And while I’m generally not the biggest fan of flan, I must say that the dish itself was great especially in combination with the crumble.

The last course was an “apple wheel and “brown butter ice cream”. Now, let me tell you, I absolutely loved the brown butter ice cream – it was superbly delicious and superbly enjoyable. Unfortunately, the apple wheel wasn’t as enjoyable as it was somehow not crispy at all, which is something I would have expected.

The final course – since the pars also makes chocolates – were “nduja chocolates” and while they were great in terms of chocolate content, they were also rather intense (and hence a bit tricky if you’re not the biggest fan of chocolates).

Given we were not that happy with the ‘apple wheel’, we got a second pair of “chocolates with pepper”, which were actually quite interesting.

What I liked about the place – besides the overall great food – was the service. The staff was very attentive and superbly friendly, so, in any case you’d be very much enjoying the dinner here. I would highly recommend you to book your table well in advance.
