Better food than expected with a messy service approach: Restaurant Viet Rice (15. February 2026)
I had walked by this place quite a few times by now and somehow the place was either not open or I just didn’t feel like entering, but given it was open on a Sunday and we needed something warm, we gave it a try. I started with the “Sup Tom Kha (coconut soup with lemongrass, lime leaves, mushrooms, and coriander, with chicken)” (EUR 5.50), which was not only a generous portion, but was also rather enjoyable from a flavor perspective. And there was actually sufficient chicken in the soup, which I had not expected.

As a main, I had picked the “Bi Do (creamy Hokkaido pumpkin curry, served with fragrant jasmine rice, with duck)” (EUR 15.90), which turned out to be much better than expected. The sauce was nice and so was the duck. The only part I didn’t entirely get was the ‘salad’. I mean, why would you add salad to that? Other than that, it was surprisingly tasty.

All in all, the Viet Rice is okay to have a quick lunch on a Sunday. From an interior perspective, the place isn’t too appealing as it is too cluttered and comes across as very disorganized. The staff is friendly, but semi attentive – I was almost alone, but they decided to do some drilling while there were still customers. After telling them in a friendly manner that I find that not very appealing to have a loud drilling noise in the background while eating, they stopped.
