Part of the ‘overrated fancy places’, but better than others: Restaurant Giorgia Trattoria (17. February 2026)

What I truly despise about these ‘fancy’ places is the fact that you will always have to wait when you book a table for a specific time slot. Oh, it’s just 15 minutes more. Well, why the heck do I book a table for a specific time, and I’m asked to be on time to ‘then just wait 15 minutes’? And we’re not talking about 9pm or so, but 7.15pm. Like, come on, try a little harder! After I made it clear that this was unacceptable, they fast-tracked the preparation of the table and we were offered a nice table.

The staff – besides the lady who “welcomes” you – is actually friendly and rather professional, so, they take up the order rather swiftly and make sure your beverages are brought to your table within no time. We ordered a few things as antipasti to share like the “crispy focaccia (crispy Italian pizza bread, directly from the oven, with olive oil, rosemary and sea salt)” (EUR 4.50), which was quite lovely, but is – in my opinion – not really focaccia but pizza dough.

The “burrata al pistachio (burrata 125g from Apulia, served with creamy pistachio pesto)” (EUR 14.00) turned out to be rather tasty too – frankly, I had not expected that, but the combination works actually quite well. So, definitely a dish I can recommend you to order when you dine here.

The “crocchetta milanese (crispy Milanese risotto balls with sapphron and Parmigiano Reggiano, garnished with veal tatar and a hint of gremolata)” (EUR 15.00) looked a bit funny at first, but it turned out to be a great bite. Sure, with EUR 5.00 per bite, I find it rather pricey for Germany, but it is also quite delicious, so, definitely also a dish I can imagine ordering again.

What I absolutely loved was the “Amore di Tartufo per 2 (our special Mafaldine with creamy truffle mascarpone sauce, Parmigiano Reggiano foam and fresh black truffle, served in a Pecorino wheel) for two” (EUR 50.00) since the pasta was cooked al dente, it was full of flavor, and the portion size was actually superbly generous. So, if you love pasta and enjoy combining it with cheese, then the Amore di Tartufo is definitely something I can highly recommend to you.

I mean, both would get such a pan of pasta – delicious and definitely enough.

Unfortunately, my “Ossobuco alla Milanese (the Milanese veal ossobuco, slowly braised, served with potato mash)” (EUR 31.00) did not live up to the standards of the previous dishes. Sure, it wasn’t bad, so, no technical complaint, but it was just somehow not really that great – can’t even really put my finger on it.

From a decoration point, the place is actually quite nice. I mean, the ceiling is a mirror, so, if you look up, you can see yourself sitting at the table – which is quite fun. Plus, the way down to the washrooms is quite colorful too. So, all in all, I liked the interior.

What I didn’t like – besides the not satisfying welcome and timing – is the fact that it’s rather crowded and, hence, loud. But not nearly as bad as the Gigi. So, if you are looking for a ‘fancy’, ‘in’, and ‘hyped’ place, definitely pick the Giorgia Trattoria compared to the Gigi Trattoria.
