A great ramen place in the middle of the French alps – with an attitude: Restaurant Unkai Ramen (21. March 2026)

Even during Tomorrowland Winter, if you go early in the day, I think we went at 4.30pm CET, you won’t have to book your table in advance but can actually just walk in and score a table. Hence, here we were. We started with “edamame” (EUR 5.00) …

… and “wakamé salad” (EUR 6.00).. The edamame was fine, and so was the wakamé salad. Nothing more.

Given they offered gyoza with raclette cheese, I had to order the “chicken and vegetable gyozas” (EUR 9.00) with “raclette cheese” (EUR 3.00) and I must admit that I was a bit surprised that this was a thing, but I must admit that the combination actually worked rather will, surprisingly well, I dare say.

As a main course, I picked the “Onsen Ramen (chicken broth, sesame paste, spicy oil, minced seasoned pork, red onion, menma, kikurage, Chinese chive, nori)” (EUR 22.00), which wasn’t very “Onsen-y”, but it was absolutely tasty. The broth was intense – which I loved – and the contents of the ramen were delicious. So, all in all, I absolutely enjoyed the main course!

The place is rather small, but it’s somewhat atmospheric and functional. So, it’s not like you can come here in super large groups, but it’s cozy and overall nice.

The only part I didnt’ enjoy was the attitude of the waitresses. Instead of attending us (it was almost empty), they decided to keep talking although I had waved at them and had asked them if I could place the order – turns out, I had to wait. They were busy talking. Other than that, I absolutely enjoyed the Unkai Ramen!
