Lovely service, nice view, but average food: Restaurant Sealai @ Alai, Crete, a Tribute Portfolio Resort (30. April 2026)

I was looking for something swift to eat in my hotel and the Sealai looked like a good place to do so. And to be honest, the place is nice, and the staff is super friendly, so, conceptually, it’s a good place to do so. I went for the “crunchy chicken fingers (panko crusted chicken breast fillet strips with mayo-mustard dip, served with French fries)” (EUR 15.00). The chicken fingers were fine as they had quite some chicken and were nicely crispy without being too greasy from the breading. The fries on the other hand were a bit stroppy, so, not really that enjoyable.

The “Greek salad (with cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, capers, peppers, onions, olives, carob rusks, feta cheese and extra virgin Cretan olive oil)” (EUR 14.00) was overall nice, but compared to the Greek salads I would enjoy throughout this trip, they were rather average.

I also decided to have a smoothie, which was perfect to enjoy at the beach – the “ginger bits (beetroot, blueberry, pineapple, ginger)” (EUR 8.00) was absolutely enjoyable and overall a good drink, so, definitely something I would recommend you to order.

What I truly liked was the view – you got to look onto the sea and wouldn’t see much of the beach. And since it was off season, it wasn’t too crowded, but I can vividly imagine that this would change massively the moment you would be here in summer.

All in all, the Sealai is a decent place to have lunch if you’re staying at the Alai. The service is friendly and swift, the place is nice, prices are fair, but the food is average at best.
