A decent breakfast selection without offering anything extraordinary: Restaurant Raeti @ Alai, Crete, a Tribute Portfolio Resort (2. May 2026)

I’m a bit torn about the experience at the Raeti in the Alai, Crete, a Tribute Portfolio Resort. There is a decent selection of everything – ranging from cereals …

… to fruit and yogurts …

… to cheese and cold cuts …

… as well as fresh fruit, honey comb, honey, and white chocolate …

… as well as a bunch of warm dishes like eggs, bacon, sausages, or mushrooms …

… offering a few different types of bread …

… and pastries …

… complemented by cucumbers, salad, onions, olives, tomatoes, feta cheese, and fish …

… as well as the mandatory jams and olive oil.

Frankly, you find a little bit of everything and for the fact that it’s included in your dish, it’s a decent selection. But I didn’t really enjoy any of the warm dishes in the pots, nor did I feel like they are on top of their things. I give you an example. I wanted a “ham and cheese omelet” from the guy at the egg counter and his answer was “you have to order it with the waitress”. I mean, sure, you’re right in terms of procedures, but the place was empty, and there was – at the time of me asking – no waitress to be seen. So, anyway, I went to my table and then a waitress showed up who I asked for a “ham and cheese omelet”. And her reaction was “oh, do we have that on the menu?”. I mean, I also get that, but if you offer ham, you have cheese, and you offer a vegetable omelet on your menu, then I’m sure you can somehow make a ham and cheese omelet. They finally were able to, but the process to get there was … unnecessarily annoying. To be fair, the omelet wasn’t great either, so, I decided to stick with what they have on their menu.

The “poached eggs (served on toasted bread with smooth avocado mousse, finished with a rich Hollandaise sauce)” were actually fine in terms of flavor, but the Hollandaise sauce was way too thin for my personal gusto. It felt like a very, very light version of a Hollandaise and was, hence, missing intensity.

What was better were the “scrambled eggs (scrambled eggs with cream cheese, served on toasted sourdough bread with sun-dried tomato pesto)” as they were somehow a bit tastier – although it wouldn’t need the ‘warm tomatoes’ for decoration on top.

So, all in all, the place is nice, it’s too cold when it’s raining outside, and the staff is friendly, so, there is nothing to complain, technically, but somehow it feels like they’re not yet fully at their best.
