A Michelin-starred restaurant which serves as the training place for the Azurmendi: Restaurant ENEKO (8. May 2026)
Apparently, the ENEKO is the sister restaurant of the Azurmendi (3 Michelin stars) where the staff for the Azurmendi is educated and taught their ways. Hence, I was curious what I was to expect and was looking forward to an evening full of exciting flavors. We decided to go for the “Tasting Menu” (EUR 96.00) with the respective “Wine Pairing” (EUR 50.00). The dinner started with a trolley brought to your table …

… on which the “homemade brioche” was brought to you …

… accompanied by “parsley butter with grated salt” and I must say that both together was great. Especially, also, because the brioche wasn’t so greasy as it too often is. The fact that they took a block of salt and shaved it over the butter definitely added to the experience.

Next in line was a small drink called “marianito”, which was absolutely refreshing and good to clean the palate before any other dish.

The next in line was the “foie grass curd and orange gelée” and while I didn’t quite know what to expect, I must admit that it was absolutely delicious. The foie gras was superbly creamy and really tickling all my taste buds – which was more than lovely.

The “oyster, airy menuière and manzanilla” was not really what I usually enjoy, but they prepared it in a way so it didn’t have the taste of sea water, which was truly lovely. Sure, still oyster, so, still not my favourite dish, but it was – all in all – enjoyable.

After that, a dish called “like a risotto without rice, tuber, Idiazabal and Joselito jowls” was served. Now, I was curious what that would exactly be, and it turned out to be ‘fake risotto’ without any rice. And it was – surprisingly – good. So, another enjoyable dish.

The “garlic mushrooms” was not what I would call I had expected to be enjoying, but it turned out to be delicious. From a texture perspective, it was like pulled pork, and from a flavor perspective, it wasn’t entirely far away. Frankly, although purely vegetarian, it turned out to be rather delicious.

Then, it was time for the “farm-fresh and wheat stew”, which was yet another interesting flavor combination. Not sure what the corn chips really added to the dish (besides very little crunchiness), but other than that, it was fine.

I am not quite sure what to say about the “hake in tempura and green cockles sauce with lagrima peas”. The hake in tempura was delicious. The grean cockles sauce was nice. The lagrima peas were delicious. However, in combination it was a bit difficult since the hake in tempura kind of overpowered the rest of the dish, which was a pity, in my opinion. So, good components, not sure I would necessarily go for that combination of flavors / textures.

Then it was time for the last savory dish of the day, the “royal tail, mushroom duxelle, cauliflower pil-pil, gnocchi and truffle”. The gnocchi were probably the smallest I had ever seen, so, you wouldn’t taste much of them. However, the tail itself was intense in taste and overall delicious.

Last but not least, it was time for the dessert – and today it was “sheep’s milk, olives, and cocoa”. The dessert was oerall lovely and refreshing!

Last but not least, it was time for a few “petit fours” and you could select which ones you wanted …

… so obviously, I wanted to try all four petit fours and I must say, that it was a great ending to a lovely evening.

The place itself is rather appealing when you walk in …

… and somehow that is still true when you’re inside. I mean, the interior is fine, and it’s spacious …

… but it does feel a little like in a class room, which is a little less appealing.

The staff is friendly and attentive and really does a great job at getting you what you want. That being said, they are not yet fully on top when it comes to allergies as twice they had served something, which was clearly labelled upfront as an allergy. Once on the wine pairing side, once on the menu side.

While it’s visible that they are still learning, they are friendly, attentive, and create a good experience. Language is an issue, to be honest (at least for some), which makes it a little trickier to always understand what they serve in terms of food and wine, but the food is tasty and the view also contributes quite a bit to the overall experience. So, a deserved star, but nothing more yet.
