A dream-like gem of a restaurant – definitely worth the travel to get here: Restaurant La Revelia (9. May 2026)
Frankly, getting here without having your own car isn’t easy or cheap (the total for the Uber rides was about 120 EUR), but once you’ve made it here, you won’t regret a single minute. To get started, there was a drink of the day, which was nice and refreshing, so, it was perfect to wait for the food to arrive.

Given you’re “out there”, they only have one option, which is the “Menu La Revelia” (EUR 95.00) and you can chose to go with a “Wine Pairing” (EUR 58.00), if you feel like it. I started with a “air-dried mackerel”, which was intense and salty.

Next in line was a “tomato tartare”, which was really looking like an actual beef tartare, and tasted quite fine too. Not as great as a beef tartare, but absolutely fine. It was combined with a “lavendar kombucha”, which would help you clean your palate.

Next in line was a little “cheese and blood sausage” as small appetizers to get your palate moving. I enjoyed the cheese bite but I loved the blood sausage bite. So, after the first few bites, I was definitely happy with what had been served.

Then it was time for “bread”, which was served with …

… “smoked and miso butter and olive oil”. While I enjoyed the miso butter, the smoked butter didn’t really make my taste buds happy. But the olive oil compensated for it again. Personally, I found the bread too dry, but with the olive oil, it was fine.

The first course of the menu was “asparagus with shaved truffle”, which was overall nice. Especially the mousse with which it was served, was perfect. Unfortunately, I found the asparagus pieces a bit overpowering, which didn’t really add to the dish.

Then it was time for an “oyster”, and I was so happy it wasn’t tasting too much like salt and water.

Next in line was the “sabayón, teardrop pea & truffle” and I must admit that this dish was great. The sabayoné was exquisite and it went super well with the lagrima peas – as they are, somehow, always mouth-watering.

Then, my absolute favorite course was served. The “artichoke and cod” was an amazing combination of flavors and textures. The taste was superbly intense, but it made my taste buds dance a little happy dance, so, if you have a chance to try this dish, you absolutely should. It’s mouth-watering!

The next in line was supposed to be a “Wellington”, but it turned out not to be (since they had changed the menu but didn’t update the menu card). So, the fish wasn’t bad either, and it was nice with the sauce in which it was served.

Now, personally, I’m not the biggest fan of pigeon, but I must say that the “pigeon and Jerusalem artichoke” was actually tasty. Although it felt like I was eating the pigeon half raw, it turned out ot be full of flavor and very enjoyable.

Then, it was time for one of my favorites that evening – the “cheese waggon”! There were quite a few Austrian cheeses (yes, why?!) but they also had more local Basque cheeses, and that was, what I was goning for!

The “selection of cheeses plate” didn’t look too amazing, but let me tell you, the intensity of some of the cheeses was just plain perfect and very enjoyable to people (like me) who enjoy intense and salty flavors.

Then, it was already time for dessert, and it started in the form of “bergamot, banana and passion fruit powder”, which was nice and refreshing. It was interesting from a texture perspective as the powder was somethign you had to press together in your mouth and once it would increase its density, it would definitely also gain in flavor.

Then, it was time for “pistachio and cardamom” and I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but – frankly – it was a lovely dish, and it was fun to break the top layer into pieces.

Then, it was time for the “petit fours”, which were a small selection of different chocolates – some better, some not as great. I especially enjoyed the ‘carrot cake’!

Before I get to the way how you get there, I must say that the service was close to perfect. The waiter (of Polish origins) did an amazing job and made sure we had everything we eanted at all times. Just the “refill” of the water was something, which didn’t quite work out – but then again, the table was also one of heavy water drinkers.

Now, when you have arrived, you’re walking that small path towards the entrance and when you get there in the evening and the sun is about to set, it just looks so damn gorgeous that you have to pause for a moment to suck in that beauty.

And when you’re about to enter and get around the corner …

… you have an amazingly lovely view, which you can also enjoy from the …

… terrace where you can enjoy your aperitif, if it’s warm enough.

The inside is rather nice, especially if you get a table when you can look outside and watch the kitchen prepare the food.

Frankly, this place is a true gem as the place is truly gorgeous and definitely a location, which is truly exquisite. Not easy to find and not easy to reach, but if you manage to do so, it was worth all the travels and trickiness to get there. On top of that, tasty dishes, great service, and fair prices. So, I would highly recommend you to visit La Revelia if you’re in the surroundings of Bilbao.
