A lovely lunch experience in a more than comfortable environment: Restaurant Lasai (10. May 2026)

The final lunch in Bilbao was in the Lasai, which is a lovely little place dedicated to dogs (at least it seems like as there are quite a few dog pictures in the whole restaurant). We went for the “Lasai Tasting Menu” (EUR 76.00), which started with a “cappuccino of squid stewed with onions, with smoked potato foam” and a “cod fritter with piparras (mild Basque pickled chili peppers)”, which were both quite intense and, hence, I enjoyed them quite a bit.

Next in line was the “bluefin tuna tartar, low-temperature egg, and tomato soup”, which was at least equally tasty. I enjoyed the tartar, and it went well with the creaminess of the egg.

Then, it was time for a “roasted tomato Gilda, bluefin tuna, and kaffir lime oil” with some “kombucha”. While I absolutely loved the Gilda, I was not really a fan of the kombucha, as it felt like vinegar.

Next in line was the “hake, sherry, and spinach” as a dish. I liked the hake, as it had an interesting texture and on top of that, the flavor profile was a very enjoyable one.

The “creamy braised veal” was superb in terms of flavor. It was also a surprisingly large portion of meat – but it went so well with the underlying potato foam, you just had to finish it, even if you had already eaten enough.

Last but not least, the lunch finished with a “caramelized white chocolate flan and tonka bean Chantilly”, which was something for my palate, which isn’t a given for sweets. But, I must say, I enjoyed it quite a bit.

The place has a nice interior design …

… and you really feel welcome. On top of that, the staff is attentive (at least largely) and makes sure you have everything you want and need, hence, definitely a place I can recommend you to try when in Bilbao.
