A simple, but delicious option to try local dumplings: Pelmeni Dumpling Food Stall @ Riga Central Market (23. May 2026)
It’s more than a decade ago since I’ve last been to Riga and I must say, it was great to return. The city is beautiful and calm – definitely worth visiting! When you’re hungry, the Riga Central Market is a good place to get something to eat. We decided to go for the Pelmeni Dumpling Food Stall in the Riga Central Market, which offers a selection of dumplings. The first thing we ordered were the “khinkali with beef and lamb” (EUR 8.90), which were absolutely delicious. Frankly, though, we didn’t have a clue how to eat them, and only learned that the next day, but they were great nevertheless.
The “fried dumplings (with chicken, mushrooms and cheese)” (EUR 5.90) were not necessarily my favorite, but they were fine in terms of flavor. The “boiled dumplings with pork and beef” (EUR 5.50) on the other hand were much better and more to my liking, although they had a high dough to filling ratio. Finally, I found the idea to have sweet dumplings interesting and we went for the “dumplings with cherries” (EUR 4.50), which were fine, but somehow not that mind-blowing. I suppose, I don’t really enjoy fried dumplings much.
The place is simple, but offers a good selection of different pelmeni / dumplings.
So, if you’re hungry and are looking for some original dumplings, then I can recommend you the Riga Central Market and the Dumpling Food Stall.
