It sounded so (!) promising, but the kitchen is way too slow: Restaurant Katrina Christiansen (19. June 2026)

We had high hopes. And they were definitely disappointed. And not because the food was bad – quite the opposite. The food was great. However, the speed of service and of the kitchen was really disappointing! We decided to go for the larger tasting menu, so, the “William Tasting Menu (7 courses in three servings)” (675 DKK). And let me put it that way, we were so happy that they had “bread and spread” already on the table when we sat down because ultimately, this would allow us to have something to eat while waiting (more than 30 minutes) for the first courses to arrive. That being said, initially that was kind of okay because the bread was served with absolutely delicious spread! However, more than 30 minutes if you come for dinner by 8.45pm is just too much (and we’re not talking complicated dishes). To aggravate that, the beverages took equally long to be served.

Finally, the starters arrived in the form of a “salmon tartare with mustard, crème fraîche and dried fish”, which was actually quite a delicious bite.

And so were the “scallops with apple compote, yuzu and toasted pine nuts”, which worked perfectly well with the other ingredients in the dish and were truly enjoyable.

I must say, although I hadn’t expected beef really but rather more seafood, the “roast beef roll with olive tapenade and pickled onion on rye crisp” were a great combination of flavors. Loved it!

Then we were waiting for another 42 minutes before the next course had arrived. And, again, that’s just somewhat too much. I mean, I don’t really understand how that can happen. I understand that the lamb needs to be cooked well, but 40 minutes. Come on! It was 10pm by the time we got the main. And what was ‘funny’ to see was that all tables around complained that it took them too long for the dishes to be served. In any case, once the “leg of lamb with Faroese root vegetables, peas & lamb gravy with thyme noisette”, the “bacalao croquette with tartar sauce”, the “caprese salad with tomatoes, mozzarella and balsamic glaze” and the “mashed potatoes with onions and bacon crumbles” arrived, we were rather happy. Frankly, the lamb was quite delicious and overall enjoyable and so was the caprese salad. Both, lovely dishes. The bacalao on the other hand was rather disappointing, especially because the sauce tartare was rather bland – it didn’t really taste like anything, which was a disappointment. Somehow, the same was true for the mashed potatoes – despite the dried onions and the crispy bacon on top.

Then, somehow they managed to accelerate the delivery quite a bit and the final dish in the form of a “coconut mousse with white chocolate and strawberry compote” arrived within minutes after the table had been cleaned from the main course. Talking about weird timing really, however, the dessert was rather enjoyable, so, at least a good ending to a long time of waiting.

The place itself is rather nice when it comes to its interior. The decoration shows that the place is already there for a while …

… and has rather unique decoration components …

… some of them even rather creepy.

In any case, the Katrina Christiansen is – generally speaking – a good place. If they manage to get the speed of service and their kitchen under control, then I would visit anytime again because the food was actually good. However, at this pace it is not really something I would do again. Maybe that’s unfair, but I had the feeling that the staff consisted of 15-year-olds and was lacking a bit of attention and supervision. Maybe an adult could have helped (I’m sure there was one somewhere, but it felt a bit uncoordinated). However, the place was full, so, if you want to enjoy their food and have more than enough time to spend waiting, then I would highly recommend you to book a table in advance.
