An amazing small find in the middle of nowhere – a little grandma restaurant: Café Drekkamunnur (20. June 2026)
If you’re hungry while on the Faroe Islands, it’s not like you can just walk into one of the thousands of restaurants present on the islands (because there are only a few restaurants, which is also not surprising given there are only 40’000 inhabitants or so). In any case, when driving through the islands and feeling like a coffee break since the weather wasn’t great (as almost always apparently), we stumbled upon the Café Drekkamunnur which is in a small road, but is definitely worth a stop. Now, you might expect a menu (as I did, naively so), but what you’re getting is basically what the grandma who runs the place has prepared at this point in time. And since she had prepared a “curry fish soup with salmon and home-made bread”, we decided to go for this one – and it was absolutely exquisite!
The place is simple, but also somewhat lovely as the interior is more like an extended home and not really like a regular restaurant, which is really the charm of the place.
So, all in all, the Café Drekkamunnur is definitely a place I would recommend you to stop to get the full local experience. You get what I have cooked, there is nothing else! And we loved it!
