One of the two street food stalls in Asia with a Michelin star – worth visiting: Restaurant Raan Jai Fay (27. June 2026)

| September 7, 2026 | 0 Comments

Jai Fay is world-famous for her crab omelet and every time I’ve been to Bangkok, I tried to pay her a visit, but either the place was closed or the line was so long that I didn’t feel like queueing. Today, I was lucky as there was no line and within seconds, we were seated! Of course, I had to try her famous “crab meat omelet” (1’500 BHT), which was incredibly full of crab meat. Frankly, something I hadn’t expected. The omelet was good, but the amount of crab meat in that dish was just mind-blowing.

Secondly, I went for the “stir-fried crab meat in yellow curry, cooked with egg and onion” (2’000 BHT), which was actually equally delicious, but I personally wouldn’t have needed the egg with it. That being said, the curry in which the crab meat was presented was delicious and absolutely mouth-watering.

The “stir-fried Chinese broccoli and Japanese abalone in oyster sauce” (600 BHT) on the other hand, at least imho, was relatively uneventful and not something I’d personally order again.

The place is absolutely simple, and you get a table once it’s your turn. The head waitress (in the middle of the picture) is swift and efficient, and isn’t up for discussing anything. That being said, it gets the job done.

Your table is really like you’re somewhere at the beach …

… but you’re in Fai Jay’s shop, and she’s still the one behind the fire, which I find impressive, given the heat and her age (she’s 82!)!

If you have a chance to try the crab meat omelet at the Raan Jai Fay, you definitely should do so. The dish is delicious, the price isn’t low, but it’s absolutely worth it. So, if you are into tasty dishes and an authentic experience, then I would highly recommend you to come here (and even queue)!
