Great dishes in a simple location – with speedy service: Restaurant Baannok Bangkok (29. June 2026)

| September 11, 2026 | 0 Comments

I hadn’t ordered the “coocnut” (180 THB), but a watermelon juice, but after it had been served, I figured, why not, and it was quite tasty. Plus, it was a good deal since the coconut was relatively big, so, you would get a lot of coconut water.

I decided to go for the “pork crackling rice” (300 THB), which was really a treat. A combination of the fried pork chunks, the fried rice, chili, onions, Thai basil and the egg really made it superbly enjoyable. It wasn’t easy to mix in the plate without spilling, but once ith ad worked, it was definitely a delicious treat.

The “deep-fried pork belly” (220 THB) was a bit similar in terms of texture, but it went well with the chili paste in which I was dipping it – and it was a great bite too.

The “Tum Korat papaya salad” (240 THB) was not as spicy as other papaya salads I have tried in the past. That being said, it still had a nice spice level and was overall totally enjoyable.

The “stir-fried cabbage with fish sauce” (180 THB) wasn’t that amazing, but still overall okay.

The “coconut water tom yum soup with young coconut and prawns” (490 THB) was definitely on the spicier side of things and, hence, not something you would be able to eat a lot of with a European stomach. But, it was something which would cleanse you perfectly.

The interior of the restaurant is super simple, but it does the trick. The only challenge is really the AC, which goes at full blast leading to a rather uncomfortable (due to the cold) feeling quite quickly.

Overall, the Baannok Bangkok is a good choice for a swift and tasty meal – friendly and attentive staff, good food, fair prices, and okay atmosphere. Booking in advance – at least for lunch – doesn’t seem to be necessary.
