13. April 2013: Gaststuben zum Schlössli
The evening started with “the starters trio ‘Schlössli’ – smoked trout filet, herb cream cheese terrine with vegetables salad, beef carpaccio, salad bouquet”. The trout filet was fine but tasted intensively fishy, the herb cream cheese terrine was tender and the beef carpaccio was actually great. It was accompanied by Pinot blanc, Séléction Schlössli, Fam. Zahner which was refreshing.
The main course, “veal back, morel cream sauce, vegetables, home-made curd spaetzle” was better than the starter. The sauce was tasty, the veal was tender (but had fibres in some parts) and rich and the spaetzle were tasty too – but not enough. The main course was accompanied by “Harmonia” Toscana rosso IGT, Castello del Trebbio which was a good and rich red wine.
Finally, the dessert beat it all: “A symphony of tangerine sorbet, Rheintaler ribel corn dessert with cherries from Rorschach, chocolate hazelnut parfait”. My personal highlight was the tangerine sorbet as it was deliciously mouth-watering.
Last but not least, the event ended with coffee “Max Havelaar” and Grappa (CHF 8.50). I cannot say much about the price as I was invited but it seemed reasonable (just feeling-wise). The service is quite good but was sometimes a bit un-attentive. But as there were only about 3 waiters for 60 people I guess that’s okay – although I would just staff more waiters in that case being the restaurant owner. The place is pretty atmospheric as we were on the top floor of this former castle and we were in the great hall. Definitely lovely!
Overall, I can recommend the Gaststuben zum Schlössli – very nice place, good food, fair service, and assumingly fair prices!
