18. March 2010: Ristorante El Tombon de San Marc

| March 19, 2010 | 0 Comments

The Ristorante El Tombon de San Marc is close to the Brera Area. You can easily reach it by a short footwalk from the green metro line.

What already strikes you from far away is the crowd of people standing in front of the place. It’s quite crowded on the inside as well as the place is actually a former bar which turned to a restaurant not so long ago. The restaurant looks nice from the outside somehow as it has somehow a really traditional Italian appearance.

On the other hand, the place is even nicer on the inside – really old-fashioned, everything made of wood. Therefore, you start feeling comfortable quite soon as the wooden interior somehow creates a comfortable feeling.

To get a place at the bar is a bit tricky, not so much though for the restaurant itself. The waitress are quite flexible and absolutely friendly. Although tables had to be rearranged in order to get us seated, it was done within a few minutes. Within a few minutes you get the menu, but it actually takes quite a while until you’re served the drinks. On the other hand, when you’re ordering something to eat, this goes quite quick.

We enjoyed a plate of different “salumi” with “Gnocchi fritti” which were totally tasty. The piatti dei salumi was a bit small but still the different cold cuts tasted good.

What is a bit a shortcoming of the whole story is the price – dishes and drinks are quite expensive. Although the food is good, it’s not outstanding and therefore, I consider the prices a bit too high. It’s somewhat compensated by the nice atmosphere and the friendly personnel but not completely.

All in all, the Ristorante El Tombon de San Marc is a nice place to hang out and have a drink, and probably a great place to eat if you have a huge budget! Therefore, go & try it!
