24. March 2010: Ristorante Taste of India
The ristorante Indiano (aka Taste of India) is situated close to the metro station “Porta Venezia” on the red line. It’s just a little footwalk from there to the restaurant which is kind of hidden in a small side street. The entry doesn’t really look to appealing as it’s basically just a glass door and it looks a bit shabby.
Once you’ve entered the place the perception of it changes: You’re welcomed by a nice and warm atmosphere. The whole dining room is held in light yellow and orange colour.
The menu you’re given to choose from is quite large and it’s somewhat challenging to pick your dishes. The service is very friendly and helpful. Once you’ve placed your order and received your drinks, you can easily spend your waiting time by eating the pita bread with some different sauces and spices.
As a starter I had “Cheese Naan” which was basically bread with cheese on top of it. Nothing really special and new, but it was good. The only shortcomming here was the fact that I lost a piece of my tooth because there was something in it, which wasn’t supposed to be there (which will also cause a total decrease in the rating of the dishes).
As a main course I had some lamb curry with rice which was quite good. The portions aren’t really too big but you should get enough. The food is quite good, somehow though not as spicy as ordered. All in all, it was good Indian food.
What I considered somehow a highlight was the little box with different stuff (incl. sugar) which was brought to our table at the end. It’s basically thought to neutralize the spice and taste in your mouth and it works – plus, it’s really tasty to just eat it as a desert somehow.
During the courses the waiter came to our table and asked us if we’re content with the dishes (once more something which is often missing even in outstanding restaurants).
The price-performance ratio is really good as overall you get enough food which is in general quite good (besides the fact that you’re at risk of loosing a tooth …).
