11. July 2013: Ristorante Montecodeno
Located at the Lago di Como, the Ristorante Montecodeno is famous for its seafood dishes. As a starter several small canapées were served which were definitely tasty. Some of them more – others less but all definitely provided in very good quality.
Second was the “primo” which usually consists of pasta but that somehow got skipped that day – instead yet more fish was served. And as most was pickled it is not everybody thing but personally, I liked the pickled fish even more!
The sidedish of the main course was polenta and – although I am not a huge fan of polenta – I must say that it was a very creamy and tasty polenta!
The actual main course was – what a surprise – even more fish: this time fried fish. Again, definitely good but for my personal gusto the amount of fish that day was definitely too damn high!
For dessert, something like tiramisu was served – only: it was not really a tiramisu but something else. Of course it had the general structure of a tiramisu but was somehow “enriched” with raisins and the like. Personally, I did not like this sweet.
The place itself is rather simple to be honest – a typical family-run place. Lovely somehow but very simple overall! The service is dedicated and friendly – well – at least dedicated! It is more this kind of – very rapid serving and quickly explaining in light-speed fast Italian what you are just about to eat!
If you are in the vicinity of this very lovely place Varenna – you should definitely have lunch or dinner at the Ristorante Montecodeno. While the place is very simple it serves good seafood and the service is very honest!
