17. July 2013: Kunsthallencafé am Karlsplatz
It is about 8 months ago, I have been here and already back then I thought it is a nice place but now that it is summer I must say the place is even nicer. I went for “vegetarian dips (hummus, guacamole, beans) with pita bread” (EUR 6.50) as a started which was quite rich. The guacamole had a nice touch of lemon which made it very smooth and rich in taste. The hummus was creamy but smooth too and the bean dip was quite interesting.
The main course on the other hand – “fried calamari with lime rice and sweet chili jam” (EUR 9.60) – were quite a disappointment. I mean, the rice was good and I actually loved the chili jam but the calamari themselves – while spiced up nicely – were just too chewy. Definitely not the consistency you would want them to be!
The prices for the beverages are also quite fine – 0,5L Ottakringer account for EUR 3.80. What is truly great about the place though is the fact that you get to sit outside in very nice and comfortable atmosphere and surrouding is what actually makes this place so lovely. The waitress was somehow dedicated but somehow you could also see that she was not fully into her job. Still, absolutely great place to go (but beware of the mosquitos)!
