29. July 2013: Restaurant Al Merluzzo Felice
Great Sicilian food is what you get at the Restaurant Al Merluzzo Felice – we started with “Pesce spada e tonno affumicato delle Lipari” with …
… “Alici marinate, porpù, cozzi” …
… and “Polpette di gianchetti” (EUR 12.00). The seafood was fresh and tasty – what I have learned that evening and I was not aware of before, is the fact that Milan is apparently the largest seafood processing location in Italy.
Next was a typical Italian dish – “Pasta cà muddica” (EUR 8.00). The pasta was absolutely aromatic and the “cà muddica” (with bread crumbs) was amazingly good! Pasta just has to be eaten when in Italy!
My friend who made the reservation ordered “couscous” for all of us which I did not really look that much forward to. What she did not tell us was that it was not only “couscous” …
… but it came “alla trapanese” – with a large plate of different fishes and other seafood (EUR 21.00). The seafood broth was mind-blowingly luscious.
Now, I am not a big fan of sweets and when this plate of “sweets” (EUR 8.00) was served I was really not expecting anything positive. But the rolls in the middle – I was taught – have to be filled with ricotta. Yes! Ricotta! I argued that this is not a sweet – but I was taught differently!
The sweet ricotta was definitely exquisitely ambrosial! My favourite sweet! Sooooooo good!!!
The price is very fair for what you get – this also applies to the beverages. A bottle of white wine accounts for EUR 16.00 and a bottle of mineral water for EUR 1.50. The service is good, friendly, and the owner is still the one who is in charge. The place is very simple and you have basically no chance of finding it when you do not know where it is but it is definitely worth going. Reservation highly recommended!
