8. April 2010: Lounge @Hotel des Balances

| April 9, 2010 | 0 Comments

The Hotel des Balances is located in the historic center of Lucerne and easily accessible by foot (which is also the only way it is accessible). The entrance is located towards the city whereas the terrace is positioned towards the river Reuss.

From the outside, the Hotel looks nice, and is somehow welcoming – even more when you’ve entered the place. It’s a good mixture between a modern and somehow antique interior design.

The lounge is located right close to the entrance (just a few steps down) and is quite large and therefore, offers different compartments (a bar part, a part with lounge chairs and some regular tables). The design of the lounge itself is quite nice – even though nicer around the bar part with the regular tables (see picture below).

The waiter is at your table within a few minutes, providing you with a menu (if you ask for it) and brings you a little apero to your table (which is offered by the restaurant). The service is quick, friendly and helpful.

The apero plate consists of olives, “Smarties” and wasabi peanuts. Quite good all in all although the Smarties somehow confused me.

As a dish I’ve had a beef tartar which was okay – the ingredients were fresh, there was enough toast and butter and it was totally enjoyable.

The price-performance ratio is once more okay. You get a good atmosphere, good service, good food for a reasonable price.

The Lounge @Hotel des Balances is definitely a nice place to go to have a drink and especially, when you get a table close to the lake, it’s absolutely nice.
