4. October 2013: Distillery Berta
Well, frankly speaking, this is not really a restaurant or a bar but it is definitely worth visiting when you are in the Piemonte – one should take a little way to get to Mombaruzzo and visit the Distillery of Berta! Berta produces very high quality grappa for approximately 60 years and if you are into grappa you for sure know them by now.
The tour starts with the regular stuff through the distillery but what really is impressive is the cellar where all the “high quality” grappa are stored in (mostly oak) barrels for 12 to 18 months. Absolutely amazing, absolutely impressive – thousands and thousands of litres of precious, incredibly tasty grappa!
Once you are through with the tour, you are offered a nice and wide variety of different grappas to try from. And I must say that this is definitely worth a visit if it is only for trying the grappas – I mean, it is worth it anyway but the degustation thing is definitely great – especially if you already know most of the grappas and you are offered the new ones.
The “service”, so to speak, was outstanding. Licia was our tour guide and she did a magnificient job and – in flawless German! Overall, I can absolutely recommend you to visit the Distillery of Berta – great insights, amazing place, great tour and last but not least, great degustation!
