12. October 2013: Monarch Wine Bar
I walked by the Monarch Wine Bar twice before I went in – and it was worth a visit. Having a platter of “French Pork Ham, Jamon Serrano & Iberico (150gr)” (CZK 200, approx. CHF 10.00) with really tasty ham and good olive spread …
… and continuing with “Italian and Spain Salami Selection (150gr)” (CZK 200, approx. CHF 10.00) which was also quite good. The local wine I was recommended (0,75L; CZK 250, approx. CHF 12.50) was actually quite good – unexpectedly good to be honest.
But what really makes the place nice is the atmosphere – it is like a old, large wine cellar with a lot of wine bottles as decoration at the side and and open kitchen where you can watch the people. Definitely lovely!
The service is good, friendly, helpful and quick – only when it comes to pouring wine in the glass of the person who tried they failed. I mean, it is nice that someone gets to try, and then the glasses of all the others are filled after the wine has been identified as enjoyable – but when you do not get any wine yourself thereafter, it is definitely not so great. The prices are absolutely fair though!
To sum it up, the Monarch Wine Bar is definitely worth a visit – great place, good cold cuts, fair prices and overall fair service!
