15. November 2013: Weinstube Mürset

Sometimes you find nice places where you would definitely not expect them – the “seasonal leaf salad composition with carrot vinaigrette” was a pretty regular salad, generally speaking, but the carrot vinaigrette was great.

The main dish, a “pork filet on a dehydrated plum sauce, duchess potatoes and cream carrots” (CHF 46.80 incl. salad) was actually really good. The meat was tender, the sauce was rich and the carrots where yummy too (although I usually really dislike cooked carrots) – only the duchess potatoes were nothing special but the menu as a whole was good.

The “selection of different cheeses, assorted by Matthias Kündig, cheese king of Eastern Switzerland with Swiss plum mustard” (CHF 15.90) was a truly outstanding selection. Unfortunately, I was not told which cheeses I was served but they were definitely incredibly tasty.

The wine we had with the dishes, a “Primitivo Puglia IGT, Terre Di Campo Sasso S.R.L.” (CHF 49.00) was a sound and good wine. Overall, the dishes were actually astonishingly good – why astonishingly you may ask? Well – because I did not expect such good food in a nice location in the middle of nowhere.

The service is friendly, swift and helpful and the atmosphere is quite nice too – we have been seated in the saloon which has a stove and just looks very cozy. The prices are fair – for the dishes as well as for the drinks. When you are in Aarau, I can definitely recommend you to eat at the Restaurant Mürset.
