8. December 2013: Restaurant Zum Schwarzen Kameel

| December 20, 2013 | 0 Comments

I was recommended this restaurants for more than a year – and I finally made it to try typical Viennese dishes. Although not that typical for Vienna, the “hand-cut beef tatare of the Austrian bio beef, avocado, roasted sesame and buttered toast” (EUR 21.00) is absolutely great. The beef is of good quality, refined with herbs, and the avocado served on the side just somehow broadens the taste perspective.

Now, one friend told me that the Zum Schwarzen Kameel has the best “Wiener Schnitzel” in Vienna – and well, it is definitely among the best I have tried so far. The “Wiener Schnitzel from the veal saddle” (EUR 22.50) is of great taste, perfectly seasoned and had a very nice and fluffy bread coating which was not glued to the meat the way you experience it with low quality Schnitzel but kind of hoovered over the meat …

… and the “potato salad” which comes with it was quite fine too.

But not only that, Zum Schwarzen Kameel also offers a nice selection of teas, e.g. the “Sencha Yuzuki Green Tea” (characteristic herb-refreshing aroma with a hint of sweetness; EUR 3.90) but also has its brand wines like the “Grüner Veltliner Smaragd ‘Maria’, 2011 (1/8L, EUR 6.30) which was absolutely refreshing and tasty.

As a final course, I ordered a double espresso (EUR 2.65) and got surprised – as the waiter, who, by the way, did a fabulous job, Mr. Maier, offered me a dessert on the house which was basically something like a “Berliner” but with a different stuffing – orange jam.

Overall, I must say, I am glad I went to try the Restaurant Zum Schwarzen Kameel (finally!) – very nice atmosphere, like you imagine Vienna to have been in the old days, great service, absolutely attentive, friendly, very professional and last but not least, good dishes for fair prices! Worth going – definitely an institution in Vienna!
