31. January 2014: Restaurant The Bite
The Bite opened recently and already got a high ranking on TripAdvisor (#11 of 1185 restaurants in Zurich). I must say, I do understand why it is ranked #11. I went for a burger called “The Hattrick” and retrospectively, already the description should have made me realize the size of this meal: “3 Swiss beef patties, aged cheddar cheese, thick cut bacon, roasted shallots and garlic aioli, 450gr” (CHF 41.00). However, I really did not see this monster of a burger coming. Basically, the Hattrick consists of three stacked burgers; looking at the sheer amount is already overwhelming.
Yet, not only the size is breath-taking – the taste certainly does not come short. The burger is absolutely mouth-watering and although I was not able to finish it completely, I managed quite a bit: it was delicious!
I had the “Animal Fries (French fries with Thousand Island sauce, cheddar cheese and roasted shallots” (+ CHF 3.00 with a burger) which were also incredible. The homemade ketchup, thousand island as well as the barbeque sauce are fantastic. Usually, I am not a big fan of burgers and fries – but this foodie experience is absolutely worth it! The burger is toothsome, delicious, and juicy! The prices are fair – especially for the quality you get.
The place is not only great to visit for the burgers they serve but also for the general atmosphere. It is lifely, well visited and stylish: one particularly interesting interior design piece was our table which was crafted from an old wooden door. An interesting concept – yet helplessly unpractical. The surface was bumpy and uneven – so obviously I spilled my beer (0,5L, CHF 7.00; 0,3L, CHF 5.00). Last but not least the service: it is impeccable – attentive, friendly, quick, and the waiter was up for a joke (always a bonus if appropriate).
To sum it up, The Bite is absolutely worth a visit – wonderful burgers, tasty French fries, a great atmosphere, very fair prices and last but not least, superb service.
