2. March 2014: Restaurant Trattoria Al Paladino

| March 7, 2014 | 0 Comments

When I randomly walked by the Restaurant Trattoria Al Paladino it already looked quite inviting and when I googled up on it I must say it was definitely clear that I was going to have dinner there as it sounded really promising. Obviously, I booked a table in advance and it was a good decision as else there would have been no chance of getting a table that night. Upon arrival a nice table was prepared with lovely decoration …

… and already quite early, a selection of bread stripes with olive oil and garlic was served which was a nice start into the evening.

Upon talking to the owner, Nadia, we agreed on having a bit of a special approach that evening – trying to follow through with the real Italian way of eating. First was a selection of “Antipasti (king prawns, vitello tonato and carpaccio)” (EUR 14.50) and I must say that the vitello tonato was aromatic, the carpaccio flavourful and the king prawns perfectly prepared.

Obviously, after the antipasti a “primo” was needed which typically is pasta in Italy. I had asked for a “selection of pasta” and served was “Tris di Pasta” (EUR 18.50) with gnocchi in tomato sauce, tagliatelle with pesto and ravioli with a beetroot filling. The gnocchi were incredibly tasty, still a bit floury but definitely having an amazing texture. The tagliatelle were perfectly al dente and although I am usually really not a big fan of pesto I must say this particular time it was actually quite mind-blowing. The ravioli were somehow a highlight because they were great in taste but also much more because the skin of the ravioli was so beautifully thin that the stuffing shined through (as you can also see in the picture). Absolutely lovely.

As a main course I had “Involtini” (EUR 21.00) – incredibly rich in taste, triggering taste buds you are not aware of that you have them.

The selection of vegetables on the side was definitely a nice one, no question, but somehow after all this delicious food, they were comparatively boring and not really that satisfying. But to sum up the food experience I had at this particular gem in Munich: great, authentic, flavourful and aromatic Italian dishes.

But there is more to the Restaurant Trattoria Al Paladino than the food – the place is absolutely lovely. Although from the outside you would not really expect such a gem to be hidden there, once you enter you will absolutely see what I mean. But not only that, the owner, Nadia, is lovely, caring, courteous and you can see the dedication and passion she has for what she’s doing – perfect host. Unfortunately, her colleague took a while to achieve the full level of friendliness and was rather brisk in the beginning. The prices are also pretty fair – 2dl Pinot Grigio account for EUR 3.90, a double espresso for EUR 4.00 and 0,75L mineral water for EUR 5.20. Only the bottle of “Bricco dell’Uccellone” was with EUR 75.00 a bit more expensive (but my preferred choice).

It is worth to get a bit out of the centre of Munich to go to the Restaurant Al Paladino – great Italian dishes, caring and lovely owner, great atmosphere and very fair prices! Italy (in Germany) at its best!
