13. March 2014: Restaurant Fiu

| March 16, 2014 | 0 Comments

The Restaurant Fiu is apparently one of the best restaurants in Münster (I have been told) and I must say that the Italian dishes they serve are absolutely okay. But to be honest, if this is among the very best restaurants then I am curious “how good” the top notch restaurants are. In any case, the start of the evening was a “antipasti misti” plate (EUR 11.00) which offered a nice selection of various typical Italian dishes like vitello tonato, vitello pesto, tomatoes and mozzarella, cold cuts, olives, and seafood. The dishes were good so my positive mood for the evening had recovered after it took the waiters ages to come to the tables to pick up the orders.

My main course was “Tagliata with rocket salad and parmesan” (EUR 20.50) and well, that was not really up to the task. I mean, the meat was fine and given the price one is not supposed to complain but it was not cut like a tagliata and somehow it just lacked richness and flavour.

As a sidedish I had a “vegetables plate” (EUR 5.80) and this in comparison was actually quite good as the selection of vegetables was vast and they were overall quite flavourful.

The bread which was served after waiting for approximately 20 to 30 minutes looked very good and promising but unfortunately it was dry as a desert – and as unfortunately there was no water on the table when the bread was served it was definitely a challenge to not suffocate from it.

What one has to say though, the service might not have been the quickest but they have been very uncomplicated, friendly, and helpful. The group we arrived with was a bit bigger than expected (26 instead of 20) and although the reservation was obviously only for 20 and not for 26, they managed to get enough tables together to make sure everybody was sitting together. The atmosphere of the place is quite nice, it is comfortable, you get to see an open kitchen which is lovely and always a good sign and last but not least the light is nicely dimmed so you feel comfortable.
