14. April 2014: Restaurant Roter Stein
I walked by a couple of times before and I would never have been entering this place but when I randomly found it via Google Maps I was considering giving it a try and I must admit that the inside looks way better than the outside. But unfortunately the impression was correct once I had placed my order and went for the menu. Part of the menu was a soup but there would also have been the choice of a salad (which I had ordered) but I was served the soup – and I have up till now no clue what kind of soup it was.
The main course was as much a disappointment – the “pork schnitzel with salad” (CHF 19.50, including the soup) was very average as well as the salad. A classic display of industrially produced salad sauce with not really much dedication in preparing the dishes. The schnitzel were rather boring in taste and just somehow like very cheaply, quickly prepared food. And I must admit it was very quickly prepared – the food arrived within a couple of minutes after the order was placed.
While the place definitely looks more appealing from the inside than from the outside it still is a very simple and not really that appealing place. The service is about as dedicated and competent as a flower standing in the corner of a room. The dishes are extremly simple and not really tasty but at least you don’t spend a lot of money on the food or the beverages (Valser, 0,5L, CHF 4.50). However, I will definitely not go there again.
