15. May 2014: Restaurant Estancia Steaks

The “Argentinian Surf & Turf (consisting of chorizo, king prawn and leaf salad)” (EUR 9.30) was a simple but good start into the evening. The chorizo was nicely spicey but still aromatic and the king prawn was of a pleasant consistency and taste.

The main course was a “beef filet from South America, 250gr, medium-rare” (EUR 24.50) which looked absolutely appealing when served. And I must say the parts which touched the grill and the immediate surrounding of it were absolutely delicious because the grill taste was transported flawlessly. Unfortunately, the meat which did not touch the grill (so the inner part) somehow lacked a bit in taste of its own – while absolutely being tender and having a great consistency it just lacked aroma.

As a side dish I had ordered “Spicy Lentiles” (EUR 3.90) and “Leaf Spinach” (EUR 3.90) – the spicy lentils were absolutely delicious: nice consistency, still a bit crunchy, nicely spiced up. The leaf spinach on the other hand was very average – fine spinach, no question but it just lacked something.

The prices for the dishes are very fair though – and the same applies to the beverages (0,75L water, EUR 7.50; a bottle of PURO Corte, Dieter Meier, 2009, EUR 29.80). The place itself is absolutely lovely – very nice interior design, very appealing, inviting, making you feel comfortable. The service is also almost flawless, the waiters are flexible (we called twice to move the reservation a bit due to delay of the flight), very friendly, welcoming, warm-hearted – great service. Only once we had to wait until someone showed up at our table to refill our glasses.

However, to sum it up, the experience at the Restaurant Estancia Steaks is a good one – the dishes are absolutely good (and my little complaint above stems from rather large experience when it comes to beef filet and the respective “spoiledness” of my taste buds), the place is lovely, the service is (almost) flawless and the prices are very fair. So, if you are into meat, I haven’t found a better place in Hamburg so far!
