4. June 2014: Restaurant Jade
The Restaurant Jade offers once a month a “Sushi à discretion” for CHF 49.00 where you can eat as much as you want – and basically everything on the sushi menu. I started with “Edamame” which was a refreshing start into the evening.
As I had never tried it before I thought I should give the “Knobu Salad” a shot and I must say it was a good decision as the salad was tasty and actually even more refreshing. So, I started my dinner with a very smooth and light set of dishes.
Next in the orchestra was the “Miso Soup” which was rather ordinary but fine – a simple and common miso soup.
Then, the feast began! I think we (a group of 9 people) ordered about 12 such plates and while you would most likely expect that the sushi – if served in the all you can eat manner – would not really be of high quality I must say it was absolutely to my liking.
Especially the (tuna) sashimi was incredibly delicious. But besides the sashimi there was a wide selection of different sushis which was served that night: Salmon maki, tuna maki, shinko maki, avocado maki, Italian inside out, spicy shrimp inside out, California inside out, spicy tuna tartar inside out, green dragon inside out, salmon cucumber inside out, Santa Cruz inside out, shrimp spring roll, ebi nigiri, salmon nigiri, and tuna nigiri.
Frankly, I don’t know if I actually had tried all of them – I think so – but in the end it does not matter. What matters is the fact that the sushi is actually very tasty and the selection is absolutely nice.
The Jade restaurant is nicely and modernly furnished, the light is a bit dark but besides that it is very pleasant to dine at the Restaurant Jade. On top of that, the good looking waitresses do a fine job and the kitchen is incredibly quick – within minutes after ordering our first sushi plate, the sushi was served.
Above all, while CHF 49.00 for sushi does at first not seem like little it actually is (especially for Zurich). And given the atmosphere, service, and quality of the dishes, I must admit the sushi night every month is definitely worth attending. And while the price is more than okay for the food the same applies for the beer (Turbinenbräu, 0,33l, CHF 7.00).
Overall, I can absolutely recommend the Restaurant Jade for its monthly sushi night – lovely place and great sushi for an incredibly good price.
