14. July 2014: Restaurant Don Leone
It is a solid four years ago since I have been at the restaurant Don Leone (see review) and I was obviously curious how things have changed. In order to obtain a good overview I started with “Degustazione misto Salumi e Formaggi” (CHF 17.50 per person) and while the selection was not vast it was a nice one.
I had no clue what the main dish was about to be because I had basically ordered what the lady sitting at the table next to us had when we arrived – as it smelled and looked delicious. The “Garganelli del neurologo impazzito (lettino di carpaccio, rucola, pinoli, porcini, tartufo nero)” (CHF 30.50) were absolutely tasty – a voluptuous combination of al dente pasta with black truffles and beef carpaccio.
To finalize the dinner “hazelnut icecream” (CHF 9.50) was the way to go. The taste of hazelnut was, luckily, relatively subtle but it was definitely quite a portion. The icecream was shared by the three of us (as we all were pretty stuffed and did not want to eat too much more) and while usually the piece of icecream would probably be smaller we were overwhelmed by the generosity of serving such a large piece and still not charging a single cent more.
The prices are absolutely fair for what you get which also applies to the beverages (1L Agua Gassata, CHF 8.00; bottle of Crumma, 2008, IGT, CHF 72.00). The waitress was very friendly and competent, the place itself is rather simple, rather crammed but somehow provides you with this feeling of being in a small nice real Italian restaurant. Overall, the Restaurant Don Leone is still a good place to go and enjoy some Italian food and a good bottle of wine.
